Remembering Pearl Harbor

On this day, seventy-one years ago, the American naval base at Pearl Harbor was subject to a surprise attack by the Japanese, marking the springboard for the United States’ involvement in WWII.

The day following the attack – December 8, 1941 – Americans huddled around their radios to hear President Roosevelt’s Day of Infamy Speech, which recounted the “sudden” and “deliberate” attack from Japan, with whom the United States was at peace with, according to FDR. Not long after his address was made, Congress declared war on Japan. Three days later, Congress declared war once more – this time, on Germany.

Lasting for nearly two hours, the attack on Pearl Harbor began at 7:55 a.m. on an otherwise quiet morning and ended at 9:45 a.m., bringing the devastating loss of 2,335 U.S. servicemen, and leaving 1,143 wounded. Eight American battleships were sunk and damaged, as the Japanese dropped bombs from above in aircraft – 65 Japanese men died during the mission.

Advanced Packaging would like to thank and honor those who served in Pearl Harbor, and pay tribute to all men and women who have given up their lives and safety in the U.S. military – whether before, during, or after the Second World War. We appreciate your heroic sacrifice
